VUM free cassette release performance
Friday, October 21st at 7pm

VUM's first cassette was "Strange Attractor" on Los Angeles' Living Tapes in 2009, and now they're playing Vacation Vinyl to celebrate the release of the "Night Sun" also on Living Tapes. Dreamy Keyboards and guitar melt in some sort of new-wave post punk bliss.

CRAFT - VOID LP on SOUTHERN LORD

Erupting forth from the filthiest ranks of the underworld, the long-awaited new album from Swedish black metal horde, CRAFT, is finally upon us!

Diehards of CRAFT’s vicious, orthodox black metal bombardment have been seething in anticipation of this album for years, their immensely praised/feared 2005-released Fuck The Universe full-length having infected the metal community on impressive new levels for this previously cult outfit. But 2011 will bring that wait to a crushing end, with the release of the band’s fourth LP, Void. Delivering a nine-track convoy of punishing black hymns over forty nine-minutes, Void does not just pick up where Fuck The Universe left off, rather it also explores some crushing new angles, as well as revisits some of CRAFT’s earlier, scathing days, and wholly channels the band’s obvious, endless hate unto the human population. (from EARSPLIT).

Vacation Vinyl will have copies available on Clear with Black Splatter vinyl.

PRIZEHOG free in-store
Friday, October 14th @ 7pm

For all of you hard and heavies that like it slow and low, and dig the likes of the Melvins, Harvey Milk, Boris and other slo-mo dirge merchants. But Prizehog infuse their low end assault with all manner of druggy psychedelia, warped doom pop and blurred blissed out slow-core, conjuring up a sound that pounds and pummels, drift and shimmers, grinds and churns, slipping effortlessly from bombastic Melvinsy howl and chug, to a super hooky heaviness, that reminds us of the warped Buttholes beholden noisepop of Prizehog pals Wildildlife, from a sort of bluesy, blissed out tarpit ZZ Top swing and swagger, to a dark and dolorous black hole heavy slowcore a la Codeine or True Widow, often all wound up into a single song.

PLANNING FOR BURIAL
free in-store performance
Tuesday, September 27th @ 7pm

“Leaving is quite possibly the most amazing record ever to mix shoegaze, metal, doom, drone, and everything beautifully badass. Seriously epic songs that fill your heart with joy and make your ears fucking bleed. Crank this motherfucker up and let the bliss wash over you while you bang your head.” – Anti-Gravity Bunny

“Planning For Burial bring together drone and shoegaze, this time with little splashes of doom metal and black metal. Bringing to mind Jesu, Pyramids & Nadja and My Bloody Valentine as well as the dreariness of Explosions In The Sky’s All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, this album is, much like HANL’s perfect Deathconsciousness, overflowing with emotion, almost to the point of being exhausting. I very strongly recommend this album, because it is definitely one of my favorite releases this year.” - Shock Mountain

live rituals by
VOLAHN and ARIZMENDA
Saturday, September 24th @ 7pm

Live rituals by two unique LA-area bands operating loosely within the field of
black metal, clean, sparse atmospheres to dirty wailing tortured screams and washes of guitar punctuated by distant drums.

the BERLIN BRATS
Friday, September 23rd @ 7pm

It’s circa the mid-1970’s and the Rolling Stones are recording in the luxury of the Caribbean and the New York Dolls are in the midst of their death throes… but in Hollywood, Ca. the Berlin Brats are torching the Sunset Strip, demolishing pay-to-play live gigs and bringing rock and roll into a psychosexual realm – all before the Sex Pistols have played a single note.

THE BODY
Sunday, September 18th @ 5pm

For 10 years the rumors have slowly spread from the Mid-South through the New England region of the United States of a group, known as THE BODY, declaring war on all they consider "FALSE" through rituals involving solid state amplification and jolting percussion. Their latest addition to the arsenal against the contrived is All The Waters Of The Earth Turn To Blood. The duo has allied itself with the Assembly of Light Choir and members of bands as varied as Bonedust, Callers, Dead Times, Fang Island, Human Beast, Lichens, Made In Mexico, Otesanek, Trtrkmmr, What Cheer Brigade, & Work/Death on their latest LP.

The Body will perform for free at Vacation Vinyl on Sunday, September 18th @ 5pm!

STEPHEN BROWER & THE SILENT MAJORITY
Friday, September 16th @ 7pm

Siphon some fumes from the American Primitive guitar meanderings of John Fahey, the kitchen-sink folk of Califone, the boozy, Southern gothic literacy of James McMurtry, the populist guitar fireworks of Dean Ween, and the decadent noise of the Jesus & Mary Chain and you’ll have a heady ether somewhat akin to that which Stephen Brower & the Silent Majority are trying to project.

Stephen Brower and the Silent Majority will perform free at Vacation Vinyl on Friday, September 16th @ 7pm.

ST. VINCENT at SPACE 1520 on September 13th!

Buy the album at VACATION VINYL and get a wristband to attend the show free!

TOM HALL - Muted Angels CS Release Party on Friday, Sept. 2nd

Tom Hall's MUTED ANGELS sees a logical progression from previous releases. Letting go of peer idols and forging new ground, this album perfectly maps the intense geographical changes he's made in his physical life in just the past 12-months. Melding synthesized melodies with noise, field recordings and extensive processing both digital and analog sees Hall break into a realm that he can truly call his own.

Tom will be performing a live set in the shop with projected visual accompaniment by Janeva Zentz at 7PM. This event is free, and we will have copies of his new MUTED ANGELS cassette on hand!

This weekend at Vacation - Sunset Junction OUR WAY

While the "official" Sunset Junction fest has been canceled, we here at Vacation Vinyl refuse to NOT party. We've got a killer weekend of events in the shop, and unlike that festival, our events are FREE for everyone. In-stores & record release parties with the following: 400 Blows, Bestial Mouths, The Men & Milk Music, along with some great guest DJs. Read below for more information!

Saturday, August 27th, 1pm-5pm

400 Blows "Sickness and Health" LP release party!

Following news of the cancellation of this year's Sunset Junction music festival, 400 Blows and The Butthole Surfers have moved Saturday's upcoming Los Angeles show to popular local venue The Echoplex.

Recently named "Best Album of the Month" by Vice Magazine, 400 Blows will be celebrating the release of "Sickness and Health" with a daytime party this Saturday at Vacation Vinyl. We've got some awesome guest DJs including Chuck Dukowski (Black Flag, Black Face, Sextet), Gabe Serbian (The Locust, Retox, Year Future, Le Butcherettes), Joey Karam (One Day as a Lion, The Locust) and Zane (Killing Spree). Vacation Vinyl will be selling the limited white vinyl pressing of the new 400 Blows LP at this event!

Saturday, August 27th, 8pm-9pm
Bestial Mouths "Hissing Veil" LP release party!

Later in the night, LA industrialists Bestial Mouths will perform in the store for the LP release of their DAIS Records album "Hissing Veil" on LP. The record is 40 minutes of intense gloom. A meditation on the relationship between transgressor and victim conceived in a flurry of automatic writing, Hissing Veil is an urgent declaration revealed in a barrage of primitive rhythms and feral calls.

Sunday, August 28th, 4pm
The Men & Milk Music

Two heavy and blown out bands are going to tear the shop apart Sunday and they'll be playing a show later that night at Bordello downtown (901 E. 1st st)

Milk Music (above) will open with their Wipers/Dinosaur Jr./Husker Du-zoned meltdown, and The Men (below) are going to finish it out from a similar headspace but in a lo-fi and confusing Kraut-meets-hardcore fuzz wall which is somehow just good ol' rock-n-roll. It doesn't necessarily make sense but it sounds good so it doesn't need to be understood.
