Mark McGuire, who you may know as one-third of Cleveland noise trio Emeralds, has more than 20 releases under his belt, but none quite like his offering for VDSQ. Of his song "Front Porch Breeze," McGuire says, "It started out as a ten-minute track..I had just come in from outside when I recorded it and I remember my hands being too cold from the wind to play at first. If I had waited a few minutes to start this would probably be a much longer piece."

Joshua Blatchley fronts the band Mountian Home and his release on VDSQ is his first solo instrumental guitar album. Stereogum praised his music as being "wandering, openly structured, classically tuned atmospherics."

Until The Light Takes Us tells the story of black metal. Part music scene and part cultural uprising, black metal rose to worldwide notoriety in the mid-nineties when a rash of suicides, murders, and church burnings accompanied the explosive artistic growth and output of a music scene that would forever redefine what heavy metal is and what it stands for to other musicians, artists and music fans world-wide. Until The Light Takes Us goes behind the highly sensationalized media reports of "Satanists running amok in Europe" to examine the complex and largely misunderstood principles and beliefs that led to this rebellion against both Christianity and modern culture.

To capture this on film, directors Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell moved to Norway and lived with the musicians for several years, building relationships that allowed them to create a surprisingly intimate portrait of this violent, but ultimately misunderstood, movement. The result is a poignant, moving story that's as much about the idea that reality is composed of whatever the most people believe, regardless of what's actually true, as it is about a music scene that blazed a path of murder and arson across the northern sky.

Like most Angelenos, Eddie Solis is pissed about the traffic on the 101. Unlike most Angelenos, Eddie Solis writes songs about being pissed about the traffic on the 101.
Solis' band, an impossibly loud punk/hardcore duo called It's Casual, addresses transit issues with an urgency hitherto unmatched in the realm of urban planning. Imagine Henry Rollins at a City Council Transportation Committee meeting, all neck veins and municipal outrage, and you get the picture.
Onstage, Solis' eyes bulge amid a shock of curly hair, his throat emitting the collective war cry of a million frustrated commuters: "Los Angeles! There's too many people! I want them to go away!"...
